Best of High Island Rookery

The High Island Smith Oaks Rookery is one of our favorite destinations close to home for bird photography in the springtime. This Audubon sanctuary is a fabulous place for closeup photography of Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Tri-colored Herons, and Roseatte Spoonbills courting, nesting, and rearing their new chicks. It can get pretty crowded with other photographers on the weekends in April and May.
