Elk
We love to come to Rocky Mountain National Park in late September for the peak of the elk rut. Elk seem to be everywhere, and especially in the meadows below our favorite campsite in Moraine Park Campgrounds. In the early morning and late evening, the bulls are doing their best bugling to try to hold onto their large female "harems" (that is what they are really called!) and to hopefully attract new females. The interactions between the bulls and cows are interesting, especially when the cow approaches a bull and licks his antlers. Not sure what that means, but we can guess!
