Other Ungulates

We saw mostly female elk together in herds, but saw the occasional bull elk. The elk are the favorite prey of wolves, and since the restoration of wolves to the park in 1995, the elk population has dwindled noticeably, while other flora and fauna affected by elk have become more abundant. Bighorn sheep and pronghorn were very scarce, but we were fortunate to see each on separate occasions.
