Sea Spirit and the Falkland Islands

The Falkland Islands are an archipelago located about 300 miles east of the southern tip of South America, at around 52 degrees south latitude. The total human population is around 3000, but 2/3 of these live in the one town and capital, Port Stanley. Most of the islands are uninhabited, and many contain wildlife preserves which host large colonies of Black-browed Albatrosses, Rockhopper Penguins, and Blue-eyed Shags. We only spent two days in the Falklands before venturing to South Georgia, and only one day was spent photographing the wildlife, since we needed to call on Port Stanley. Viewing the large bird colonies on the cliffs of New Island (thousands of Black-browed Albatrosses, Rockhopper Penguins, and Blue-eyed Shags) gave us the first opportunities to experience the awesome amount of wildlife that fluorishes in the Southern Ocean all the way down to Antarctica.
